A heater core is an integral component of a vehicle's heating and cooling system. It functions as a small radiator that generates heat by transferring hot coolant from the engine to the interior of the vehicle. The heater core is usually located behind the dashboard and is connected to the engine's cooling system through hoses.

Once the engine reaches operating temperature, the hot coolant flows through the heater core. As air is blown over the heater core by the vehicle's blower motor, the heat from the hot coolant is transferred to the air. This heated air is then sent into the cabin of the vehicle through the vents, providing warmth and comfort to the passengers. In addition to providing heat, the heater core also helps regulate the temperature within the engine by removing excess heat from the coolant and transferring it outside the vehicle.
