Gates Belt Tensioner 38311

A belt tensioner in a car is an important component that helps to keep the vehicle running smoothly. Its main job is to ensure that the drive belt is tight enough to turn the accessories and components that are powered by the engine. When the engine is running, it creates a rotational force that is transferred to the accessory drive belt. This belt, in turn, provides power to various parts of the car, such as the alternator, air conditioning compressor, and power steering pump.

Without the belt tensioner, the drive belt would quickly stretch and wear out, causing the engine to lose power and various other components to stop working. The belt tensioner uses a pulley system and a spring-loaded mechanism to keep the belt at the correct tension. The tensioner can also help to absorb shock and vibrations that can occur when the engine is running. Over time, the belt tensioner can become worn, damaged, or misaligned, causing the belt to slip or break. It is important to have the belt tensioner checked and maintained regularly to ensure that it is functioning properly and to prevent any costly repairs down the line.
