A bonnet cable in a car is an essential component that operates the opening and closing mechanism of the bonnet or hood. It is generally located inside the car's cabin, usually near the driver's side footwell or dashboard. The bonnet cable consists of a flexible cable encased in a protective sheath, with one end attached to the bonnet latch mechanism and the other end connected to the bonnet release lever.

When the driver pulls the bonnet release lever inside the car, the bonnet cable transmits the force to the bonnet latch mechanism, causing it to disengage and release the hood. This allows the driver to gain access to the engine compartment for maintenance, inspections, or repairs. Conversely, when the driver pushes down the bonnet after completing the necessary tasks, the bonnet latch mechanism locks securely into place, ensuring the hood remains closed during normal driving conditions to protect the engine and other components from dirt, debris, and potential damage.
